This programme community site is a supplement to the official website of the Master’s degree programme in Human Security at Aarhus University. It is a site where lecturers and students from the programme can easily provide additional programme information and share pictures, videos, and links to important human security material.

Human Security at Aarhus University is a unique Master’s degree programme and the first of its kind in Europe. The programme was established in 2011 and accepts up to 40 students per year (read more in the “Students” menu). During two years of cross-disciplinary studies, students achieve a deeper understanding of conflicts around the world and learn about different approaches to human security.

The concept of Human Security was introduced by the United Nations Development Programme in 1994 as a human-centred security framework with seven interconnected security dimensions: economic, food, health, environmental, personal, community, and political security. In our programme, students learn how to analyse and intervene in this complex network of interwoven social, economic, political, and environmental factors.

At the Human Security programme we have a cross-disciplinary team of lecturers from Anthropology, Agroecology, Biology, Development Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, History, and Peace and Conflict Studies. The programme is directed by the Department of Anthropology and located at the beautiful Moesgaard Campus south of Aarhus city.
